Buyer -  Strategic Sourcing (Commodities) - FoodCo | A Fresh New Direction

This is an exciting opportunity to join Woolworths Supermarkets as a Buyer of Commodities and Ingredients!

This role will play an  important part in ensuring that the Woolworths team continues to  drive and evolve its strategic sourcing of Bulk Commodities and Ingredients for manufacturing. The position is within the FoodCo Team and reports through the Strategic Sourcing Manager.

Our Commodities and Ingredients team is responsible for the sourcing  of key commodities such as Dried Fruit, Nuts, Seeds, Grains, Flour, Sugar, Rice, Dairy, and lots more. This role is to cover Bulk which will mainly focus on Grocery. Working with strategic suppliers these commodities are packed off into finished products or provided as raw materials for the development and production of our Own and Exclusive Brand products.

Critical to the function of this position will be the ability to influence and build exceptional relationships with major internal Stakeholders, Suppliers who also become our Customers. Communication will be key to your success in this role!

Responsibilities include:

• Negotiate contracts on existing and new product portfolio

• Sourcing of safe products in line with Woolworths Supplier Excellence Program

• Monitor and act upon KPIs to ensure supply continuity across the product portfolio

• Understand supply base capability and identify opportunities to nurture supplier relationships to deliver long term competitive advantage

• Review, refine and amend local and international sourcing strategies so Woolworths continues to deliver lowest input costs, whilst maintaining product quality

• Deliver COGS reductions across the respective categories without impacting quality, through ensuring better buying and working collaboratively with our suppliers

• Work cross functionally with internal and external stakeholders

To be successful you will successfully demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Demonstrated success in Buying  -  sourcing and procurement commodities - Bulk commodities would be ideal or a background in Grocery foods.

• Stakeholder management - ability to influence, positively engage with others and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Strong commercial negotiation and supplier management skills

• Experience in managing both local and international sourcing programs

• A passion for driving continuous cost/process improvement throughout the value chain

• Effective at cross-functional teamwork

• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
