About Us:

Hawai'i Tourism Oceania (HTO) is the State of Hawai'i's destination marketing representative for Australia and New Zealand and is responsible for developing innovative marketing, publicity and trade initiatives that showcase Hawai'i's people, experiences and culture in order to inspire visitors to travel to Hawai'i.  HTO is represented by The Walshe Group, one of Australia/New Zealand's largest independent tourism representation companies.

About the role:

We are looking for a Public Relations Executive to tell Hawai'i's stories and share the Aloha Spirit with Australian media and our highly-engaged fans and audiences.  You'll be working as part of a small team who are passionate about Hawai'i – we try to live and share the Aloha spirit every day and are looking for someone who will do the same. 

This is a challenging and rewarding role where no two days are the same.  Tasks include writing media releases, blog and social media posts,  developing media relationships, coordinating famil itineraries, managing media events and contributing to the division's overall marketing strategy.  Regular travel to Hawai'i is required so you will need to be available for international travel. 

The role also has an important administrative component which includes managing media clippings, updating the database, and detailed reporting and planning.  

As part of a small busy team you will need to be prepared to play your role and help the team coordinate a busy calendar of events and promotional strategies.

About you:

We're looking for a public relations specialist with at least three years experience in a PR or communications role. You'll need to have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications/public relations/journalism.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing publicity projects and activities.
  • Understanding of and experience in working across a range of media channels including print, broadcast, digital and social.
  • A creative flair with proven experience in writing materials for a variety of mediums.
  • Experience in media management, particularly in seeking out story ideas and successfully pitching them.
  • A good network of media and influencer contacts.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of stakeholders.

Some of the fine print:

  • The role is full-time and based in The Walshe Group's Sydney offices, and reports to the Country Manager, Australia, Hawaii Tourism Oceania.
  • Some domestic and international travel required.
  • Some out of hours commitments will be required     
  • Previous experience working in the tourism industry a definite advantage.
