We are seeking to employ a skilled craftsperson on a full-time, part-time or casual basis.

Finch Restorations can offer great opportunities for craftspersons with the right experience, skills and attitude to make their mark as a restorer and re-manufacturer of classic and historic vehicles.

Finch Restorations is located in Mount Barker, just 20 minutes from the Old Toll Gate on the S.E. Freeway. Finch employees living on the Adelaide plains find it quicker to travel to Mt Barker than battle the cross-city traffic, and enjoy a much more pleasant drive!

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Assess restoration requirements to complete to the required level.

  • Undertake trimming of cars, trucks, buses, caravans, trains, aircraft and boats.

  • Design and manufacture complete custom-made prestige and luxury interiors including seats, door trims, headliners, steering wheels and sun-visors.

  • Remove old coverings or fittings from vehicles, take new measurements and make patterns.

  • Select, measure and cut out pieces of fabric, vinyl or leather using shears or electric cutting tools.

  • Sew pieces together using industrial sewing machines.

  • Manufacture, repair and refurbish seat springs and frames.

  • Fit trim in vehicles trim in vehicles such as lining, floor coverings and armrests.

  • Repair and manufacture seat covers, carpets, flooring, boot linings, tonneau covers, folding hoods, clear screens and window mesh.

  • Repair dashboard, mouldings and plastic/vinyl trim.

  • Refit, align and check window winding mechanisms, door locks and other interior parts.

  • Waterproof and dustproof vehicles using weather strips and draught sealers.

  • Setting up and managing the trim shop.

  • Source and maintain stock levels of all items required for the completion of duties.

  • Travel to various sites and undertake inspections, and perform in-situ repairs.

  • Other duties as required and as directed.

Experience:

  • Significant experience as a motor trimmer and/or automotive upholsterer.

  • Competent in the use of shears, electric cutting tools and heavy-duty sewing machines.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Able to trim a vehicle to a high standard.

  • Knowledge of the standard methods and practices of automotive trimming and of the materials and methods used automotive trimming.Skilled in the use and operation of automotive trimming equipment.

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, a variety out automotive fabrics, vinyls and leathers.

Personal Requirements & Attitude:

  • Willing to learn new and old restoration techniques and able to take direction.

  • Able to visualise the end product, have a great eye for detail, good hand-eye coordination and great pride in own work.

  • Enthusiastic and organised with a positive outlook, 'can do' attitude and ability to work effectively as a team member.

  • Customer focussed a good communicator and great attention to detail.

  • Aptitude for technical activities, able to work to deadlines and operate hand tools and machinery.

  • Full body mobility and the ability to twist, turn, bend at the waist, and work on your feet for extended periods of time, sometimes under dashboards.
  • Provide own comprehensive selection of tools.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and clean record.
  • Possess a LR, MR or HR driver's license (desirable).
