Environmental Biogeochemistry Research Project - Controls on Soil Carbon Export Revealed by Novel Tracers on Multiple Timescales (SCENT),

Recent increases in DOC (dissolved organic carbon) in UK surface waters has generated great research interest in the release of DOC from organic soil systems. Our SCENT project combines soil experiments, river chemistry records and speleothem archives, to discover the mechanisms of DOC release through recent history from pre-industrial times, to present day. Applications are invited for a 3 month Research Associate post to undertake biogeochemical experimental research as part of the SCENT project. This work will focus on the relationship between dissolved organic carbon, and trace metals in soils under different environmental conditions. Data from this work will contribute to the wider aims of the SCENT project in the study of organo-metal complexes preserved in speleothem archives.
