Applications are invited for a part-time (29.2 hours per week: Monday to Friday with reduced hours or a 4-day week) BBSRC funded Research Laboratory Technician position to join the lab of Dr. Paul Conduit in the Department of Zoology, located in central Cambridge. The post-holder will be part of a vibrant team of researchers who use fruit flies to study how microtubule formation is regulated in cells.
The post-holder's primary responsibilities will be to maintain the lab's fly stock collection, help with fly handling and fly crosses, manage lab databases, organise lab meetings, process orders and help in the day-to-day running of the lab. They will also be expected to support lab members in their research and to participate in experiments as and when required. Training in fly handling and molecular biology will be provided.
The appointment will start 1st January 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Essential skills:
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team
- The ability to organise time and work effectively, independently and responsibly
Preferred skills:
- Prior experience of working with Drosophila would be an advantage, but not essential
- Prior experience in molecular biology would be an advantage, but not essential
