Detail information about job Research Assistant in Metabolomics. Terms and conditions vacancy

Reporting to Professor Daniel Anthony, the post holder will take the lead on a project focusing on defining robust parameters for the analysis of blood samples for NMR metabolomics. The emphasis of this project would be to define the limitations of a blood test which is currently in development within the group. This would include: recruiting patients at the JR hospital, processing and preparing blood samples for analysis, designing experiments and protocols and multivariate analysis.

In addition, the candidate will join the metabolomics team in the Anthony lab and contribute to work elucidating the underlying molecular mechanisms and uncovering biomarkers in demyelinating diseases. The techniques required for both these projects include experience handling human tissue, experience in cell culture, DNA/protein extraction, PCR, ELISA, and experience with animal models.

The post holder will also provide advice and guidance to research students where appropriate.

The successful candidate should hold a relevant first degree and an MSc qualification in a relevant subject. In addition, experience working in an immunology laboratory environment; collecting, processing, and analysing human blood samples; working with mouse and rat models of human immunological disorders; and cell culture systems are all essential. Applicants should also be proficient in a range of standard laboratory techniques including: DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, RT –qPCR, Western Bot, flow-cytometry, cell transfection, and immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, drug kinetics, and ELISA.

The post is fixed-term to 28 February 2018, funded by the MRC Confidence in Concept Fund and Numares.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 15 September 2017.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
