Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has a vacancy for 36 months for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, in the The School of Physics and Astronomy as a result of a successful EPSRC grant under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund. The aim of the project is to develop and investigate low cost functional carbon materials to be used as negative electrodes in Na-ion batteries. Under the supervision of Dr Alan Drew and Prof Martin Dove, with overall project guidance from Prof. Magdalena Titirici, the successful candidate will characterise the morphology, pore structure, defects, local structure and ion diffusion of the carbon electrodes using a range of techniques, including X-ray and Neutron total scattering, quasi-inelastic neutron scattering, x-ray and neutron diffraction, muon spin rotation and NMR. In particular, the Na storage mechanisms and ion diffusion are of critical importance.
All applicants should have, or be about to gain, a PhD or equivalent in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics or equivalent subject. Experience in appropriate research techniques relevant position are required, as outlined in the job description.
Each post is full time and fixed term for 36 months, and is expected to start in October 2017. The starting salary for each post will be £32,956 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Additional Information
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
