Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Durable Thin Films: Novel Microwave Plasma Sputtered Thin Films. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed-Term for 15 months

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow with relevant research experience to work on an InnovateUK funded project involving use of a novel microwave plasma sputter deposition process for enhanced durability coatings applied to optical and engineering applications. The project establishes use of a novel sputter deposition process for application of durable coatings onto a wide range of substrate materials with applications in protective anti-reflection coatings and low friction durable coatings for automotive applications.

The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level or be close to completion of a PhD in a physical or material science. Also experience in design of optical coatings (e.g. MacLeod, FILMSTAR softwares) and a proven capability in use of Vacuum sputter deposition using reactive processes for deposition of novel optical and/or engineering materials. Experience in use of metrology relevant to characterisation (e.g. visible & infrared spectrophotometry, hardness, stiffness, and Ramen microscopy) of optical and durability thin film properties is required.

The research will be carried out within the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging (part of the UWS School of Engineering & Computing). The post holder will be joining a team of academic staff, postgraduate research students, and experts from industry and government agencies developing product offerings that optimises the unique selling points provided by UWS Thin Films Technology. The post will be based at UWS Paisley Campus.
