Detail information about job Post Doctoral Research Assistant. Terms and conditions vacancy
The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the agreed scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).
Main Purpose of the Post
The ability to control the surface wettability from highly hydrophobic to highly hydrophilic by introducing various organic molecules, with diverse surface energies, has attracted much research for industrial applications ranging from antifouling to waterproofing surfaces.
The existing low surface energy materials are mainly made from fluorocarbons and polymers, which have environmental consequences due to bioaccumulation and toxicity of these materials.
The main purpose of this post is to develop green and environmentally friendly low surface energy materials for health care applications.
This position is industry funded and composed of two parts:
Utilization of various nanoparticles into films/ hydrocolloids to create zones that can be superhydrophobic / superydrophilic.
Synthesizing bi-functional polymers for surface controlled adhesives
The successful candidate will be expecting to assist in the following areas: gathering, preparation and analysis of data, to generate original ideas and present results. Experience with one or more of the following is desirable with regard the project: a PhD in experimental science (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, and Engineering). The candidate will be expected to assist in the design and construction of research equipment for this expanding lab. As the post will be based on physical lab work the candidate should display a track record of practical laboratory experience, or similar. A highly desirable criteria includes experience working with nanomaterials and polymers.
The vision of the Energy Safety Research Institute (ESRI) is to develop technology for the safe implementation of energy generation, storage and transmission. The aim is to provide new approaches for a range of base energy solutions, including: hydrogen as an energy vector, CO2 capture, storage and conversion, low environmental impact of hydrocarbon fuels, and the application of carbon nanotubes as power transmission cables.
Fixed Term Contract end date
This is a fixed term position funded to 31st March 2019.
