Division of Digestive Diseases

Faculty of Medicine

Campus: St Mary’s, Paddington

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join the team on an exciting new project focusing on the role of the microbiome in Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. In this study, metabolic phenotyping will be conducted using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry (MS) to complement microbiomic analysis, and better understand the role of host microbiome composition, function and metabonome in this disease setting.

The post holder will be involved in the acquisition, processing and analysis of multi-omic data, which includes Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) metabolic data, microbiome analysis (MiSeq derived and qPCR, and functional proteomics), and analysing the gut microbiome and metabonome data, using multivariate statistical analyses, chemometric and bioinformatic approaches to identify relevant features associated with stratified subgroups of patients. Data will be mapped to biological pathways and interpretation will be achieved together with input from other team members. The post holder will form the primary link between the Imperial College team and external research collaborators.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline and must be able to maintain accurate and complete records, have proven organisational skills, excellent laboratory skills, show initiative, and be prepared to work to deadlines. Good interpersonal skills, laboratory safety procedures, and data entry work would be an advantage.

This full-time (35 hours per week) post is offered until 31 May 2018, and will be based primarily at St Mary’s Campus in Paddington with travel to the South Kensington Campus.

Closing Date: 13 September 2017 (Midnight BST)
