Centre for Environmental Policy

The Centre for Environmental Policy wishes to recruit an experienced Personal Assistant and Administrator to work at the South Kensington Campus in London. The post will form part of the Technical Support Unit (TSU) for Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) hosted by Imperial College London. IPCC aims to provide the world with a clear scientific view of the current state of knowledge on climate change. Working Group III is concerned with reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The post holder will provide personal assistance to Prof Jim Skea, the WG-III co-chair, and other senior members of the TSU as well as providing administrative support for WG-III activities. These include planning and delivering workshops, organising meetings of lead authors and the production of IPCC reports.

You must have an appropriate/relevant academic or equivalent vocational qualification plus work experience in a relevant role and, ideally, experience of working in a Higher Education or other research-focused work environment. You must also have experience of coordinating and arranging meetings, providing a customer-focused service, minute-taking and proof reading as well as experience of administration in a higher education environment. You will also be expected to be flexible by providing occasional administrative assistance to the Centre for Environmental Policy’s teaching and research activities when required.

Good interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to work and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority are essential. You must be able to set and work to deadlines and be willing to work under pressure from time to time. You must be computer literate and willing to travel occasionally, usually overseas, for periods of up to a week to help facilitate workshops and meetings. Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to work methodically, use initiative and to prioritise your work are also essential.
