Detail information about job Research Fellow in Membrane Protein Structure - Protein NMR (80343-097). Terms and conditions vacancy
Fixed term position for 3 years. A 3-year postdoctoral research position funded by the Medical Research Council is available in the group of Dr. Ann Dixon. The project is focused on exploring the roles of transmembrane domains in the assembly and function of the B-cell receptor (BCR), one of the most important immune receptors in humans which controls B-cell development, activity, selection and death. Aberrant BCR signalling leads to autoimmune diseases, B-cell leukaemias, and lymphomas, thus it is a therapeutic target of great interest. You will use a variety of biochemical and biophysical methods (including solution-state NMR spectroscopy) to investigate the structures and interactions of the BCR transmembrane domains in model membranes and in natural membranes. You will work in close collaboration with experts in the biology of this receptor, in order to translate our structural findings in situ into cells and more fully relate structure to function. You must have completed (or be soon to complete) a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline. A keen interest in structural biology and a proven ability in innovative and effective experimental research are essential. You must also have demonstrable experience in molecular biology and overproduction and purification of recombinant proteins as well as protein solution-state NMR spectroscopy. You will be able to work independently and as part of a research team, aiding in the supervision of junior researchers. You will have excellent planning, time management, communication and scientific writing skills, and will participate in the preparation of research papers and annual reports. You will present your research results at national and international conferences. Informal inquiries should be addressed to Dr. Ann Dixon ([email protected]). Information about the Dixon group can be found at:
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/research/dixon/dixongroupIf you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£28,936). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£29,799).
