Geography and Environment seek a permanent, full-time palaeoenvironmental technician to join the department’s laboratory technical team and to support the world class teaching and research in physical geography.

This is an opportunity to develop your technical expertise and interests in physical geography by supporting academic research and teaching, in particular by working with the Palaeoenvironmental Laboratory research group and also the Earth Surface Dynamics research group.

You will be expected to: conduct the day-to-day running of the Palaeoenvironmental laboratories; plan, organise, and carry out a range of defined tests/experiments/technical procedures in Palaeoenvironmental Science; use specialist equipment and techniques; provide guidance and coaching to junior colleagues and students in relation to technical operations, specialist equipment, and testing undertaken in the laboratories and in the field.

It is desirable that you will already have experience of the day-to-day operations of a physical geography laboratory, including working with chemicals, and maintaining field and laboratory equipment. It is expected that there will be the opportunity to develop specialist technical skills within the areas of Quaternary Science, scanning electron microscopy, ancient DNA, tephrochronology, and biomarkers.
