The University of Bristol is looking to appoint an outstanding candidate as Head of Biological Sciences who can provide inspirational leadership and strategic management within the School
This is a key academic leadership position within the University of Bristol, supporting the attainment of the University’s vision and overall objectives, and participating in the collective formulation and delivery of the University’s academic strategy. We are looking for a proven track record of excellent partnership working both internally and externally as well as academic excellence within chosen field with the ability to engage, lead and influence across wide range of inter-faculty disciplines. The Head of School will also have a deep commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
The School of Biological Sciences is one of the country’s leading biology departments, ranked 6th in the UK for research power in the 2014 REF rankings. The overarching research theme is evolution, focusing on functional genomics, plant physiology, animal behaviour, sensory biology, and ecosystem structure and conservation, with our discoveries underpinning solutions to the most profound challenges facing our natural world in the 21st Century. There is a vibrant undergraduate population, and educational excellence has expanded in recent years with the development of a dedicated teaching team and the creation of one the UKs largest and most modern teaching laboratories in the new Life Sciences Building. The appointment of a new Head of School reflects our wish to capitalise on this investment from the University, and on our current strong trajectory and strategic plans for the future.
