Detail information about job Research Associate in Polymer Synthesis. Terms and conditions vacancy

A fixed term post for 12 months in the first instance with an option for further extension

Salary in the range £36,800 – £44,220 per annum*

The Department of Materials wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on projects aimed at synthesizing and using innovative polymer-based materials for a wide array of applications in biomedical science. This post is based within the Biomaterials group at Imperial College London, working with Professor Molly Stevens and involve collaborations with a number of other internationally recognised (nano)materials research groups. The Stevens Group has received numerous awards for outstanding biomaterials related research (www.stevensgroup.org) and comprises a very international and multidisciplinary group of Research Fellows and PhD students.

The use of polymers in materials and devices in regenerative medicine is an extremely important aspect of research within regenerative medicine and biosensing. Innovative polymers offer extremely beneficial properties, while they can be biofunctionalised or rationally designed, such as directing cell response and enable new biomaterials. Furthermore, polymer-based materials can deliver sensitive cargoes and drugs in a rapid and safe fashion to cells and tissues. These projects focus on the exploitation of polymer-based components within biomaterials for their engagement with the cell-material interface.

You will be a conscientious, innovative experimental scientist who has successfully completed a PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, materials science or engineering including bioengineering or similar. Experience in polymer synthesis and characterisation and biomaterial design for applications in regenerative medicine are essential.

You should have a proven publication record in well-ranked journals and you will work well within a team of dynamic students and Research Associates in newly refurbished laboratories on the South Kensington Campus. You will have extensive interaction with several academic collaborators and in addition to the state-of-the-art facilities within the Department. Excellent communication and organisational skills are necessary.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
