Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Accelerator Physics. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Accelerator Physics. The post is full-time and is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 1.5 years, with the possibility of extension for 6 months. This project will deal with the development of ultra-low emittance lattices for third generation light sources and collective effects via analytical studies, simulations and experimental research. The associated R&D programme will include new injection schemes for such ultra-low emittance rings.

The successful candidate will carry out studies to model, understand and optimise the performance of the ultra-low emittance Diamond lattice. Use and development of advanced numerical optimisation tools for linear and non-linear beam dynamics. Investigate impedance issues and collective effects related to small aperture vessels and their effect on the beam dynamics. Modelling of the vacuum pipe to minimise such effects. Contribute to the investigation and implementation of a non-linear injection kicker on the Diamond light source lattice. The candidate will also actively participate in machine development activities at Diamond.

Applicants should possess a PhD in accelerator physics or a related field. Previous experience in the field of accelerator physics will be an advantage, as well as familiarity with MATLAB and Python. The post will be based at the Diamond Light Source, in the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus at Didcot (UK). If desired and in agreement with the supervisors, the post holder will have the opportunity to teach in Oxford, with teaching duties of up to 3 hours per week during University term.

Please read the "person specification and job description" before preparing your application. You will be required to upload a CV, a description of research experience and interests and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition you should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to: [email protected] by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not reference letters

Informal enquiries about this post may be made to: [email protected] or [email protected].

Only applications received promptly by 12.00 noon on 16 October 2017 can be considered.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing.
