Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging (WTCN), part of the UCL Institute of Neurology, seeks a Research Associate to join the Methods Group, which is led by Prof. Karl Friston. The post holder will contribute to the development and validation of fMRI and multi-modal (fMRI, EEG, MEG) analysis methods, with a particular focus on Dynamic Causal Modelling (DCM), which is a software framework for modelling neural circuitry in conjunction with neuroimaging data.

The post holder will conduct original research and publish in peer-reviewed journals, and will be expected to develop their own research area, as well as contributing to the development of the Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) software. An important aspect of the role will be supporting researchers with their DCM analyses, and the post holder will provide training to researchers where needed.

Applicants must have an Honours degree in a numerate discipline (eg, computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering) and have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD or equivalent in neuroscience or a scientific discipline relevant to fMRI. Strong statistical/mathematical knowledge and programming skills, excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate complex technical information to a broad community of researchers, and good inter-personal skills are also required. Knowledge of Bayesian modelling techniques, familiarity with neuroscience and modelling neural systems, and experience of MATLAB are desirable.

The post is available immediately and is supported by a grant from the Wellcome Trust for two years in the first instance. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £34,635 to £41,864 per annum, superannuable. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316 - £31,967 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis, including corrections.

You should apply for this post through UCL’s online recruitment website, www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/jobs, where you can download a full job description and person specification using ref: 1667157. If you have any queries regarding the application process, please contact Miss E Bertram, HR Manager, UCL Institute of Neurology (email: [email protected]).
