The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has established itself as an agency with a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand and providing better outcomes for investors, consumers, professionals, businesses, and for the New Zealand economy.

Our General Counsel function enables and supports the FMA in promoting and facilitating the development of fair, efficient and transparent markets through the provision of the holistic, pragmatic and high quality legal and policy advice required by the FMA to achieve its objectives, while also providing independent assurance that internal processes are operating effectively.

We currently have an opportunity for a *Senior Solicitor * to join our Governance team within the General Counsel function. This is an in-house corporate legal role with a wide range of responsibilities including providing advice to the organisation and Board, preparing responses to information requests, developing and maintaining internal policies and delegations and providing specialist legal advice to the FMA's business units in relation to governance.

This role is ideally suited to a broadly skilled public or regulatory lawyer. You will have at least 8 years' experience, preferably in the financial services/ public sector and have proven ability to manage and handle confidential information.

With a background in public sector governance and board secretarial experience along with an interest in the regulation of financial services in New Zealand, it will be your drive, enthusiasm and adaptability that will allow you to truly excel in this role. Proven experience with the Official Information Act and Privacy Act is desirable but not essential.
