Tasman District Police Prosecutions Service (PPS) is offering an exciting opportunity to join their team as a sole prosecutor, on the West Coast, based in Greymouth. The West Coast prosecutor works in both the Greymouth and Westport Courts, therefore there is a requirement to travel on a regular basis. This position provides PPS support to the West Coast Area which encompasses Police staff based in Haast in the South to Karamea in the North. As a sole prosecutor it is a busy and challenging role with plenty of rewards.
You will be part of a diverse group of Constabulary prosecutors, non-Constabulary lawyers, and support and managerial staff from the wider Tasman District. In addition to being involved in courtroom advocacy, ranging from first appearance courts through to Judge alone Trials and sentencings hearings, you will be involved in various out-of-court case management processes, such as file analysis, writing submissions, and liaising with police investigators and defence counsel.
Your knowledge and understanding of key New Zealand statutes, such as the Criminal Procedure Act, Bail Act, and Evidence Act, combined with your desire and motivation to present well-constructed and compelling prosecution cases, will enable you to undertake a vital role in the Criminal Justice Sector and in the operationalisation of New Zealand Police strategy.
Ultimately, if you want to take on a challenging and rewarding role, that through your direct involvement will impact real people's lives by assisting them to be safe and feel safe, represent victims and communities, and assist New Zealand Police to move towards our mission of being the safest country, then this could be the ideal next step for you.
