Are you passionate about the plight of those in the community who struggle to find suitable accommodation for themselves and their family? Do you desire to journey alongside these people assisting them as they rebuild their lives and the lives of their children?

Reporting to the the Clinical Team Leader and liaising with the GM Community Housing, the Support Navigator works directly with whanau and individuals who are engaging with the VisionWest Community Trust Housing team and its multiple programmes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging and supporting whanau and individuals by proposing/providing individual assessments and plans and connecting whanau and individuals to individual life skill services, advocacy and supports
  • Assisting people who have housing related issues and receive referrals from local churches, networked Community Agencies, Whanau Services, MSD and HNZ
  • Providing an integrated and holistic approach to care for whanau and individuals in housing need
  • Empowering whanau and individuals to live independently with an enhanced sense of well-being in all areas of their lives
  • Working within the aims and objectives of the VisionWest Community Trust to provide holistic and wrap around services
  • Meeting all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) required by the multiple Housing Contracts being delivered by the Housing team.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Humanity Services: i.e. Social Work preferred
  • A passion for journeying with people in need
  • An empathy towards those who are struggling with life’s challenges
  • Experience in working with those who have experienced abuse and trauma
  • Experience in lone working in people’s homes with a strong understanding of personal safety requirements
  • The ability to work in a bi-cultural context and acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi to practice
  • The ability to work with individuals, families or whanau, communities and groups from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong administration and documentation skills including those required for reporting and collating statistics
  • A strength of character that displays patience, tenacity and a robust self esteem
  • A clean and current driver’s licence, and willingness to travel around the community
