What will you do
 
The Specialist Services Dental Assistant is to provide efficient, effective and patient focussed clinical/administrative service to personnel and clinical staff of the Specialist Oral Health Services. Within this role you will be providing chair side support and assistance to the Defence Oral Surgeon.
 
Other tasks include maintaining equipment, managing cross infection control standards and completing clinical and general administrative tasks as needed.
 
What we need
 
You will be joining a small team where you will be key in making sure the clinic runs and operates smoothly while meeting the needs of the patients. We are looking for a motivated chair side assistant essentially experienced in Oral Surgery.
 
You will have experience in cross infection control and maintain your knowledge of the associated regulations and standards.
 
This role is in a military environment and involves being able to think on your feet and work as part of a team. A positive and enthusiastic attitude is required. It’s important that you are flexible, adaptable and proactive and show initiative in the role. Being a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills you are able to relate to a wide and diverse range of people. You will be required to travel to other military locations for short periods of time, sometimes at short notice.
 
Ideally you will have completed the NZDA Dental Assistants course, and have current experience in sterilisation. Good computer skills are needed and if you have experience of SAP and SRM even better!

Defence Dental Services provide clinical services which are an essential part of holistic health services in the NZDF. In particular, proactive preventive based oral health services with an emphasis on restoring tooth form and function, managing conditions that affect the supporting tissues of the teeth and preventing future oral health problems. The provision of services of this nature ensures that personnel present a low oral health risk in both operational and non-operational settings.
 
The Specialist Oral Health Services comes under the command of the Specialist Health Services Commander / Manager. The Specialist Oral Health Services provides a range of specialised oral dental care to military personnel on a Tri-Service basis.

• is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
