The Stroke Foundation is the national organisation in New Zealand dedicated to reducing the incidence of stroke, improving treatment outcomes, and supporting those affected by stroke. Every day in New Zealand, 24 people have a stroke and we need exceptional people working in our team to provide a consistent service for stroke survivors and their families/whanau in the community.

The Stroke Foundation wishes to appoint a Community Stroke Advisor to provide services to stroke people and their families/whanau in the East Auckland area.

We are looking for a motivating person who has the ability to support people affected by stroke during a time of crisis, leading them through the challenges of their post stroke rehabilitation period by referring to various agencies and associations and supporting them as they recognise achievable goals.

We need someone who has the skills to work alongside the hospital multidisciplinary stroke team as well as be able to present stroke prevention education to local community groups, businesses and health professionals. The position would suit someone with experience in working with disabled clients of all ages with an understanding of the special needs and services required in these cases.

Preferred applicants will have a community health background, with associated networking skills, and should have knowledge of the effects of stroke and strategies for their day to day management.

To be part of our team it is essential that you:-
• Have well developed communication and administrative skills.
• Are competent using a computer, useing a database and accessing the internet.
• Be able to work independently as well as be part of a wider team.
• Have the ability to provide community based education presentations
• Have the ability to network successfully

Employment will be on the basis of four days (30 hours) per week. The appointee would work from either a dedicated site or home office location within the region, with a laptop and phone supplied.
