The Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for the sustainable management of the region's natural resources. We look after important functions relating to environmental protection and enhancement, safety and resilience, regional development – including coordination of the regional land transport plan, and the delivery of public transport. Our Role

We have a brand new role which focuses on leading a passionate team managing a regional passenger transport network.

Reporting to the Transport Policy Manager, and based from modern and pleasant Tauranga offices, this role offers excellent opportunity for a switched on, well organised individual with excellent inter-personal and communication skills to hit the ground running. 

This role involves leading a team implementing change - electronic ticketing, Wi-Fi, real time passenger information, new routes, while they continue to provide great customer service to our community.

Duties are varied and you are likely to: 

* Develop and lead the Passenger Transport Operations team;
* Lead, plan and manage the development and implementation of the Passenger Transport Programme that includes implementing a new region-wide electronic ticketing system and other technologies, across the Council’s contracted bus services;
* Oversee the performance (including health and safety) of bus contracts and the delivery of those services by its contractors;
* Build great working relationships with partners and stakeholders; and
* Liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The skills & personal attributes we look for: 

* Significant previous experience in tendering, contract management and supervising contractors/consultants;
* Demonstrated experience in staff/project leadership/management; 
* Demonstrated programme and/or project management experience; 
* Operational experience in the passenger transport industry;
* Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to initiate and engage effectively at all levels to achieve “buy in”; and
* A relevant tertiary qualification is required.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and organised, reporting and contributing to the effectiveness of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and the Transportation team within Council.

The recruitment salary midpoint for this position will be approximately $111,600 and will be determined based on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. Salary progression will be based on successful delivery of performance indicators.
