2018 is a huge year for the Building System Performance branch at MBIE.   We are now well underway on delivering our top three strategic priorities - leading a cross-government project to address the skills shortage in the construction sector; helping to make the building consent process more efficient; and rebalancing risk and liability allocation in the building sector.  We're contributing to the success of KiwiBuild, and shaping the building regulatory system to meet New Zealand's current and future needs.  And that's where you come in…

We're looking for an Analyst to help us keep on top of what's the next big thing for the building system.  

 

About the role

The System Strategy and Performance team sets the strategy for the building regulatory system. As an Analyst within the team, you will contribute to this by collecting and analysing data, monitoring and evaluating system performance and sector trends.  The team uses this evidence base to develop a strategy for the branch that responds to key issues and opportunities affecting the performance of the building regulatory system.

Reporting to the Manager System Strategy and Performance, you will be responsible for identifying and reporting on performance indicators in the building regulatory system, by producing high quality, reliable and timely analysis and information. 

The role requires some liaison with key internal and external sector stakeholders, for which you'll demonstrate excellent communication skills.

 

Skills and Experience

This role may a recent university graduate with an excellent academic record.  In addition you will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent (e.g. in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, operations research, science or engineering) or relevant sector experience.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and other tools to manage, summarise, interpret and present data with a good eye for detail
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Furthermore, it would be an advantage to have the following desirable skills;

  • An understanding of the role of government and the policy process
  • Experience using R or SAS for data analysis
  • Experience using SQL queries for data extraction
