Background
Due to a Principal River Engineer reducing their hours a position has been created for an additional Senior River Engineer. Working in the local government environment, you would be spending around 30% of your time in the field, and the rest in the office. As one of three senior engineers in the division you will be able to share the workload and responsibilities, providing additional variety.

Responsibilities
The section is responsible for the construction and maintenance of flood protection and drainage schemes throughout Canterbury. The focus of the team you will be working in is delivering technical engineering, planning and environmental services relating to these schemes.

You will be:
  • Undertaking technical investigations
  • Conducting scheme reviews
  • Providing technical advice
  • Designing and implementing capital works projects
  • Mentoring & helping with the development of junior engineering officers.
Requirements:
  • Experience working in a river engineering or flood protection role
  • Chartered Professional Engineer status or be well on the way to achieving it
  • Practical experience working with resource management, local government and other legislation
  • Proven ability to develop and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders and tangata whenua
  • An environmental and health and safety perspective in all aspects of work
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large physical works projects on time and on budget.
