About the business
Godfrey Hirst is the largest carpet manufacturer in Australasia. We are part of the Mohawk group of companies, who are the largest carpet and flooring manufacturer in the world. Our Wiri operation proudly produces and supplies carpet to meet the needs of our New Zealand market as well as producing woolen carpet for markets around the world.
About the role
Reporting to and working closely with the Production Manager your main responsibility will be to keep our busy factory running at industry leading rates of efficiency. You will have a team of maintenance fitters reporting to you so will have experience leading people and managing preventative maintenance programs as well as the ability to cope under the pressure that comes with occasional breakdowns and unexpected repairs.
You will also need to have experience in managing capital projects including upgrading and replacement of large and complex production plant and machinery.
The role is diversified and varied and includes responsibility for ordering and managing spare parts and materials, compliance responsibilities relating to our buildings, fire protection and health and safety systems as well as occasional time on the tools.
The successful candidate has big shoes to fill. The incumbent has been with us for 20 years but has decided a lifestyle change is now in order.

Skills and experience
You will need to be trade qualified with proven experience in maintenance engineering within a factory environment.
Experience with building compliance.
Some health and safety qualifications would be an advantage.
Forklift and EWP, dangerous goods/HASNO certification would be preferred although training will be provided.
The ability to problem solve on the go and think strategically.
