About the business and the role

Westroads has been in existence in its current form since 1995, we originated from the Westland District- and Grey District -Council Works Unit.

We have three branches i.e. Hokitika (head office), Greymouth and our newly (2014) acquired Christchurch Branch. We have a solid base of existing long term maintenance contracts with a wide range of clients.

We have grown significantly since our beginnings and even more significantly over the last two years. Our organization employs over 130 people and has developed a workforce that provides the best possible service to all customers.

Job tasks and responsibilities

 The key responsibilities include:

  • Being responsible for the profitable and efficient and safe operation of the branch
  • Coordination of all elements of the contracts, pricing and tendering
  • Contract management and administration
  • Billing, progress claims and any associated variations
  • Client and Staff Liaison over contracts
  • Safety, environment, quality and risk management assessments
  • Leading a team to achieve group goals

Providing excellent client service in all interactions

The position requires the successful applicant to be responsible for Safety Leadership, People Leadership, Branch Financial Management, Client Service Leadership & Operational Excellence. 

 To be successful you will require:

  • Business Management acumen and at least 5 years' experience
  • Experience within the civil engineering sector with Civil Engineering Qualification only as preferred
  • Strong experience in construction & project management
  • A strong contractor knowledge of civil Roading and utilities construction and maintenance
  • Demonstrated previous experience in managing a large team
  • Ability to effectively delegate, coach and train others
  • Experience in managing job costing on projects
  • Outstanding Client service leadership
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify root causes
  • Planning skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to proactively develop new client relationships
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Solid decision making skills and a strong sense of urgency
  • Commitment to Health & Safety
  • Second to none negotiation skills

Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
