One year contract, ideally starting around the 20th August to lead the AWS migration team on a complex ICT modernisation programme.
What will you do?
You will oversee the migration of this government departments core applications to AWS Sydney using containerisation technology (Docker and ECS). This will include infrastructure, applications and database, moving the suite of applications to a more modern, electronic, service-orientated architecture. Upgrading the infrastructure involves migrating the on-premise legacy architecture to a cloud based platform as a service. The migration involves containerisation of the applications, using Docker and Amazon Elastic Container (ECS) technologies.
The initial planning is underway and will be completed by the time you start. Your role will also include mentoring and upskilling the implementation team.
Main Deliverables & Tasks:
- Migration of core systems to AWS in Sydney (Java, JBOSS, Tomcat)
- Containerisation of applications using Docker and ECS
- Introduction of CI/CD
- Conversion of SQL Server database to RDS
What will you have?
Technical essential skills and experience/ experience levels (top three must be in CV)
- Experience in moving legacy Java architectures to cloud AWS
- AWS Platform-As-a-Service experience
- Practical experience in implementing ECS in AWS
- 2-3 years' working in AWS
Non-technical essential skills and experience (top three must be in CV)
- Ability to lead, motivate and mentor a small technical team (2-3 Senior Java
- Developers, Senior Test Analyst and access to infrastructure, middleware and
- security engineers)
- AWS Migration and Docker containerisation using ECS experience
- Support the organisations Information Systems Unit shift from a traditional operational
- structure into a DevOps model
Desirable Skills

Certification in Amazon Web Services (AWS) to the Architect level
- AWS migration in government or some experience of working in government
- Setting up AWS organisations in government
