About the role
We’re New Zealand’s industry leading architecture and design publishers, creating magazines, websites and events (Urbis Magazine, Houses, Architecture NZ, Interior magazine, ArchitectureNow, Interior Awards, DesignDay).
We’re looking for a talented entry level designer to be a part of our small but growing team in Kingsland. You will be supporting our our art directors to create visually stunning and effective artwork and support the art and sales department with design and admin related tasks.

Our editorial and design teams work in a fast-paced environment where the ability to turn out artwork quickly is important. We do not sacrifice quality and you should be able to work on several issues at the same time.
The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of editorial design experience. Prior experience working for a design magazine is a huge plus. You are a self-starter who can traffic his/her own layouts through the editorial process, adhere to tight deadlines, and maintain quality throughout.
There will also be an admin and client focused aspect to this role, so a professional manner, time management skills and attention to detail are crucial.
Requirements:
- Passion for magazines, architecture and design.
- Advanced experience in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator in a Mac environment.
- Strong understanding of visual hierarchy and storytelling.
- Strong typography skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a collaborative team.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
What you’ll do
- Create and design editorial pages, working closely with the art directors to refine designs and intelligently incorporating any feedback.
- Conceptualise and design print and digital promotional materials and presentations.
- Assist researching, production and styling of photoshoots.
- Create and design digital assets for our websites and EDMs.
- Be hands on and help the art department on the daily basis needs.
- Liaise directly with our advertisers to ensure submitted artwork is delivered on time and is correct.
- Create reports on digital advertising for our clients
- Liaise with the digital editors for the weekly newsletters and social media posts.
