The role involves:

• Line management, supervision and support of night staff who work in houses in the area. This will include frequent travel between the houses (a vehicle is provided).
• Delivering the ‘On Call’ service – providing guidance and instructions in an emergency and when additional help is needed, either over the phone or in person.

This position is full time (40 hours per week) and permanent; exact patterns of work will be determined once an appointment has been made, but we require some flexibility, eg to work on different nights of the week, and also to be available at times during the day for essential meetings and training.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have experience of working throughout the night, and be able to demonstrate your aptitude for this work.
• Have some experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities, or transferable experience from a similar sector.
• Be able to coach, supervise, support and communicate effectively with staff working in the houses, providing practical advice as well as guidance in an emergency.
• Have a commitment to training, able to participate in formal courses during the daytime and to ensure staff attend learning and development opportunities.
• Be a skilled communicator, able to communicate effectively with residents (some of whom are non-verbal) and with a range of staff, managers and external professionals.
• Be literate, able to write reports and keep accurate records, and a confident user of technology.
• Hold a full drivers licence and be willing to drive between Hohepa houses during the night in a company vehicle.
• Be drug free, prepared not to smoke during work hours and willing to declare any convictions.

Hohepa is a therapeutic community based on the work of Dr Rudolf Steiner. Hohepa Hawkes Bay provides residential, vocational training and school opportunities for adults and children with an intellectual disability. The organisation works to foster a community life-style for the adults and children, within a therapeutic environment. The community is based on two sites which each include a biodynamic farm – in Clive (adults) and Poraiti (children); in addition some residents live in houses in the Greenmeadows / Taradale area.
