Our client is a leading building materials manufacturer, with sites across New Zealand and Australia. As a result of continued growth, they have recently switched their Penrose based manufacturing facility to 24x7 production and therefore need two Shift Managers to manage their production facility, focused cement fibre manufacturing and production finishing. This is an excellent opportunity to join a company that have significant market share, investment and growth plans. The working hours of this position will be 4 days/nights on, 4 off on a 12 rotating shift, with either a 6am or 6pm start/finish time.

Reporting to the Production/Finishing Manager this position will have production leadership responsibilities and will be very personnel focused. The site has a down to earth attitude and they want someone who is happy to get their hands dirty, lead by example and provide team members with the direction and structure they need to develop and remain happy with the business. You will also be part of the health and safety and continuous improvement teams and this position will very much have a strategic approach.

You must have previous experience in manufacturing leadership, heavier industry/building materials would be preferred but this is not essential. But it is also your demonstrated soft skills that will see you succeed in this role and with future options within the company. As such preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the drive and leadership of those around them in line with our client’s business philosophy.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes and skills:

• Experienced as a Production Manager, Team Leader of similar
• Engineering background or other technical skills useful, but someone who has progressed up the ranks from an operator, will also be well regarded
• Heavy industry knowledge will be preferred
• Knowledge of continuous improvement practices and methodologies
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational qualities
• Able to identify and follow through on strategic improvements
• Assertive nature, and excellent decision making abilities
• Knowledge of EH&S implantation and training
