Hello and Welcome to Shane Barr Shoe Repairs.

Are you a mature person who’s happy to work independently? Have you tried a few jobs in your life but perhaps found the hands on positions suit you best? Does that type of work interest you the most?

Then you’ll probably want to read the rest of this story because you’ve just discovered the perfect position for you – the one you’ve been looking for.

What we do

At Shane Barr Shoe Repairs, we take peoples favourite comfy shoes and make them like new again. Our most common repairs are worn down heels and soles. We remove the old, glue new ones on, trim them up, recolour any edges and give them a good polish to make them like new again.

If it’s not a proper repair, it’s not a Shane Barr repair. Our motto is “Quality Craftmanship Guaranteed.”

How we do things around here

We have very well thought out processes compared to most stores in our industry, which means we can focus on the process of repairing and rejuvenating shoes in ways that most people or businesses cannot possibly do. What this means is that we need a very process oriented person who is happy to play the game of how fast and how well we can do what we do. We even have Shoe repairing time records which you are welcome to try and beat! We have set up all the systems for you, we just need someone who is good with their hands and who can follow systems and is keen to learn.

While a lot of what we do is not as easy as it looks it is usually rather simple once you get the hang of it.
The routine activities have had systems built to make them as simple as possible, so that we can spend our energy on the non-routine things that come up – like talking with our customers.

While our approach to our customer is structured and thought out, we respond to their needs as we think appropriate at the time. We become a good part of their lives. We listen to what they want, and become involved in their decision making, so that they get what they want and what they need!

If they aren’t happy at any stage we redo the repair and or refund their money. Sometimes a customer will bring a repair in that hasn’t worked, that we didn’t do! But if the customer thinks we did it, we will redo it! We’re that committed to getting it right for our customers! When we treat them right, they keep coming back and keep telling their friends about us. That’s how we prosper.

Our thinking is: we are building a business that works, so that we don’t have to work so hard. We spend so much of our lives at our stores we may as well enjoy it! Our team is the most important part of us building a business that works, as without them there is no one to run the systems, and to attend to all the human things.

In short, to work at Shane Barr Shoe Repairs is like to work in a well oiled machine. That’s how we came to have the most technologically advanced old fashioned business in the world!

About our Work Environment

We have given a lot of thought to making our business as nice as possible for all that come into contact with us - whether that be customers, employees, owners or suppliers.

We have designed our stores to appeal strongly to the type of customer who owns the type of shoe that we like to repair. Then we have thought through each repair and made it “flow”. This means we have put the tools and resources where you would most want them as you do the repair. Your area is as nice as we can currently make it, and we are open to any tweaks and improvements!

We work a fairly standard week, which means we typically get started around 9 and knock off about 4.30, and while we love to sit around and have a cuppa tea in the mornings and yarn about things we are doing in life, once it’s work time we dive into it with a vengeance and really get stuck in.

About once a month we like to get together and talk about the things that need work, so you will be constantly asked for your opinions and feedback.

You will work with someone who is easygoing and process oriented. They like to talk to people though and are happy to give really high levels of customer service, as that is how we get such great rewarding feedback from our clients.

You will be expected to work hard but we like to have fun and lots of laughs as well. Attention to detail is really important to this position because that’s what customers notice. However all of those things will be stepped out very clearly for you so that you are never left guessing what is expected of you.

We are a very family oriented business and if you have a young family we completely understand and will work to be as flexible as possible when those crazy things come up with the kids.

Where to from here – How to Apply – Please do not apply by email

If this position sounds like you – if you’d like to join a family team in a fascinating business – please drop your CV into Shane Barr Shoe Repairs, Piccadilly Arcade, 44 Grey Street Tauranga.

An old fashioned business with a modern twist
