The Opportunity

Partnered with our client, we are looking for a self-motivator who is seeking a career, not just a job. Working full-time Monday to Friday, you will be mentored by industry professionals whilst working as a Mechanical Fitter. The duration of the apprenticeship is 48 months, in which you will complete your Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM30205). On a day to day basis your duties within the factory will involve working with:

  • Hand tools and machinery
  • Lathe Machines
  • Grinders
  • Presses
  • Belt sanders and grinders
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Gas operated machines

Mechanical fitters use a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair mechanical plant machinery and equipment to operational standards. Work includes the identification of defective or worn mechanical components or equipment, repair/replacement of worn/faulty components or equipment, and modifications. Parts may be repaired or manufactured using the general application of workshop machines. 

Who we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will have a high level of motivation and a passion for hands-on, mechanical tasks. You will have a strong mechanical aptitude with a genuine interest in fixing machinery, preventative maintenance, fault finding, testing and servicing equipment. You must be reliable, punctual, and keen to learn everything about being a Mechanical Fitter. Working in a factory producing food packaging products, you will be interested in working inside in a large, fast paced environment with different maintenance duties daily. 

To be successful, you will possess the following:

  • Have completed Year 12 and be able to present a school certificate
  • A strong mechanical background and aptitude
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work hard and go the extra mile to impress
  • Commitment to attending TAFE and passing all practical and theory-based training requirements of an apprenticeship
