Woronora Memorial Park (WMP), located in Sutherland, is currently seeking an enthusiastic Horticulturist/ Cemetery Operator Worker to join their team.
About the Role
The purpose of this position is to work with our garden team to maintain our existing gardens and implement new landscapes to our ever growing and evolving memorial park. Your main duties will include:
- Grounds maintenance including: mowing, pruning, edging, weeding, leaf, and rubbish removal;
- Using a range of equipment including: hand tools; back pack blowers, hedgers, brush cutters, push and ride on mowers;
- Treatment of weeds, pests, and diseases;
- Planting trees, shrubs and annuals;
- Turf laying;
- Communicating effectively with Funeral Directors, Clergy, families and visitors.
You may also at times be required to provide additional support to the Burials and Crematorium team as follows:
- Grave digging/filling
- Preparing grave site prior to burial
- Remove/replace monuments
- Grave shoring
- Cleaning/preparing the chapel and cremation areas
- Cleaning/maintaining vehicles and equipment
- Placement of cremated remains in memorial gardens or niche walls
- Placement of commemorative plaques in memorial gardens or niche walls
- Attending/assisting in Ashes Attendance Services
About You
The successful applicant will:
- Have horticultural experience (essential)
- Certificate III in Horticulture (preferred)
- Be passionate about working outdoors
- Have a positive can-do attitude
- Hold a current Driver's Licence
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- Display initiative and be self-motivated
- Be willing to work in all weather
- Be punctual, reliable, and presentable
- Enjoy working in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
- Be able to work unsupervised
- Have a respectful and thoughtful manner
- Have strong attention to detail
- Have a mature approach with the ability to relate effectively to a diverse range of people
