About the role
Extent Heritage has a permanent full-time opportunity to take up a senior role in our Melbourne team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to lead and develop a rapidly emerging strand of our practice in built and urban heritage and cultural values. It is an exciting new position that will be ideal for a confident mid or senior level practitioner who is establishing a reputation for high quality work and looking for the opportunity to step up; operate with a greater degree of autonomy and take a lead role in developing a new area of our practice. The opportunity will involve working closely with our existing built and urban heritage specialists, and with our cultural values specialists.
The role will entail leading commercial consultancy projects, requiring skills in project management as well as key technical experience. The preferred candidate will be adaptable, ready to innovate and enthused by the opportunities and challenges presented by a changing heritage management landscape.
This is an opportunity to join, and rapidly take a leadership role within, the expanding activities of one of Australia's largest and most capable heritage consultancies, with opportunities for work nationally and internationally in multi-disciplinary teams on interesting, challenging and significant heritage places.
An attractive remuneration package can be negotiated based on demonstrated capabilities and experience.
About you
- Appropriate degree (architecture, planning, history, heritage studies, anthropology, archaeology as appropriate) with Honours or equivalent
- Expertise in the management of built/urban heritage and ideally also expertise in the assessment of intangible cultural heritage – desirable to have complementary experience in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, planning or history
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Australia
- Strong grasp of the full breadth of Victorian heritage legislation, and ideally also relating to the Commonwealth and other jurisdictions
- Experienced and comfortable in the consultation of community groups, particularly including working with Aboriginal organisations and including cultural values assessment
- Demonstrated experience in consulting or equivalent professional practice (minimum 10 years)
- Demonstrated high-level ability to lead and manage project teams and direct and develop junior staff
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and high reporting standards
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complex assessment and management reports to a high professional standard
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing project finances, directing project teams, working to tight deadlines within budget constraints, engaging and managing subcontractors
- Experience in achieving targets in revenue and profit, and in achieving high proposal success rate including through public tenders
- Drivers' license

Desirable Skills and experience
- Post-graduate degree in heritage management or similar
- Experience in a leadership role of a team of 3 people or more
