Our Federal Government client is seeking an APS5 Vaccine Laboratory technician for a 6-month contract (to commence asap).
  
Within a small team and under supervision the positions key duties include:
  • Perform the quality control testing of vaccines using a variety of immunological based techniques such as ELISA, immunodiffusion, cell culture, protein and polysaccharide analysis and animal potency assays. You may be involved in the implementation of new analytical capabilities where needed.
  • Analyse, interpret and record results.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes such as internal audits, laboratory manual reviews and equipment calibrations.
  • Ensure routine maintenance and calibration activities occur and that adequate supplies and consumables are available
  • Prepare SOPs and guidelines for the areas quality management system and the operations of the lab area.
  • Work with independence, subject to limited direction against priorities, practices, and methodologies as set out in the Laboratories Branch’s quality management system to deliver quality outcomes
  • Propose innovation initiatives and contribute to business improvement

Key capabilities for the role:
  • Experience in ELISA or related immunochemistry based techniques.
  • Provide expertise and technical knowledge in the area of vaccine testing and laboratory operations.
  • Good technical knowledge combined with analytical, problem solving, and planning skills;
  • Meet priorities for the work area and contribute to team cohesion.
  • Ability to work across different tasks with competing priorities and with minimal supervision.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area goals.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic goods regulation and understanding of the ISO17025 standard.
  • Strong communication and representational skills.

Desirable qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in a relevant field such as molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology/virology or another relevant discipline from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification.
  • Experience in a regulated laboratory environment.
  • Experience working under a quality system that is accredited to ISO17025 or similar
