Our Federal Government client is seeking an APS4 Technical Officer for a 6 month contract with a possibility of an extension.
  
As an APS 4 Technical Officer in the Plant Sciences and Risk Assessment Branch, you will work within small technical teams and apply specialist technical knowledge relevant to plant health to the development of policies to maintain Australia’s favourable plant health status and manage the biosecurity risk associated with international trade in plants and plant products. Accordingly, you will have good analysis, research, reporting and communication skills.
  
Your duties will include:  

• Performing research and analysis to assist and inform sound policy development
• Assisting in preparing reports, briefs and other correspondence
• Understanding and adhering to relevant policy and regulatory frameworks
• Demonstrating an understanding of and ability to comply to APS Values and Code of Conduct
• Under supervision, assisting in determining work priorities and taking responsibility for tasks, and contributing to the planning of team priorities
• Under direction, liaising with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and capabilities

• Having good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to distil relevant key concepts from complex technical literature
• Having well developed analytical skills, identifying issues and using good judgement to gather data and contribute to technical risk assessments and problem resolution
• An understanding of plant biosecurity in a national and international framework is preferred.

Mandatory Qualifications
  
A science qualification is mandatory in a relevant area of Plant Sciences, Biological or Agricultural sciences, plant pathology (including but not limited to either virology, bacteriology, mycology, nematology), entomology or plant biosecurity.
  
Enrolment in or completion of the postgraduate certificate, masters or diploma in plant biosecurity would be viewed favourably.
  
Must be an Australian citizen.
