Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Senior Legal Officer on a 12 month fixed term contract as maternity leave cover, commencing in mid-late September 2018. The role would suit a general commercial lawyer with approximately 2-4 years PQE. Experience in drafting and negotiating contractual agreements is essential. Candidates with additional experience in any of the following areas including intellectual property, government and or procurement processes and insurance matters would also be encouraged to apply.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The primary responsibility of the Senior Legal Officer will be to support the Principal Legal Advisor in the delivery of legal services, including the insurance function, and management of legal risk across Museums Victoria.
Notable skills and experiences:
- Demonstrated experience in the independent performance of legal professional work at an advanced level, and ability to draft complex legal agreements with some precedent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in providing advice on issues involving the consideration of moderately complex factual, legal or evidentiary issues within established frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in preparing complex reports, briefs and correspondence on issues that impact at department or organisational level.
- Ability to examine and report on complex legal instruments and decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in and ability to prioritise and organise a high volume of legal matters and to meet deadlines, with highly refined attention to detail.
- Well-developed interpersonal, representation and communication skills and proven capacity to develop effective relationships with a range of stakeholders and manage expectations.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a team environment.
- Assist in the oversight and coordination of Museums Victoria’s standard contract review and contracts administration systems.
- Provision of advice in relation to insurance matters and the reporting of insurance information to internal and external stakeholders including the effective management of information relating to insurance coverage and claims.
- Develop and deliver internal communications and training in relation to legal services, systems and insurance including the development of resources for staff.
- Comply with Museums Victoria's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations
The successful applicant will have an approved tertiary qualification in law and admission to practise as a legal practitioner within the meaning of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria).
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months until September 2019. The salary on offer is $82,574 (pro rata) + 9.5% superannuation.
