About the opportunity

We are currently looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Dispute Resolution & Litigation team. The contract is for a term of 6 months, however, there is a distinct possibility of extension for the right person.

Supporting a group of fee earners of various levels of seniority, including a Partner, this role will be relied upon to provide exceptional administrative assistance.

This position will ideally suit a person who is looking for a career as a Legal Assistant. This is a challenging role which provides a sense of ownership and accountability and would suit someone who prides themselves in the quality of their work.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • File Management – maintaining the life cycle of files, including having an understanding of the practice groups client specific costs structures, maintaining electronic files, monitoring fee estimates and file audits;
  • Practice Management – managing communications and scheduling for a team of fee earners, answering telephones, managing diaries and distribution of work, maintaining the client data base, liaising with clients regarding queries, arranging meetings and travel arrangements;
  • Document Production - drafting of documents including cost retainers and disclosures, letters and emails, preparing agendas and minutes for team meetings, precedent management;
  • Billing - monthly billing, monitoring WIP reports and fee estimates, preparing specialised client bills where required, client monthly reporting;
  • Business Development - assisting with the development of the business plan, monitoring activities to ensure KPIs are met, arranging seminars, workshops and networking functions;
  • Event Management – arranging events that are hosted by our firm, including liaising with guest presenters and attendees, managing CPD attendance requirements and making necessary catering arrangements;
  • Community Committee Membership – being part of our firm's Community Committee which is responsible for devising and driving our charitable and community support initiatives.

About you

Interested individuals must demonstrate:

  • previous administration experience in a law firm or previous exposure to legal studies;
  • a proactive approach, strong work ethic and use of initiative;
  • an excellent command of written and verbal communication skills;
  • strong and accurate keyboard skills;
  • medium to advanced use of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • proven ability to prioritise, multitask and work effectively unsupervised;
  • strong attention to detail, with highly-developed organisational skills;
  • a friendly, cooperative personality, with the ability to manage the fee earners' needs; and
  • the ability to communicate with clients and third parties as well as staff members of all levels.

This role is open to a junior or mid-level legal assistant.  Previous legal studies will be highly regarded.
