The Career Medical Officer is under the direction of a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (O&G) who has legal responsibility for the care of the patients to:
- Provide clinical care and direction to the management process for women presenting for obstetric care (antenatal, birthing and postnatal) and with gynaecological conditions (inpatient and outpatient).
- Working as a team member of the O&G team providing medical input to patient care.
- Ensure care is coordinated and safe care is being provided in a timely and efficient way

Griffith Base Hospital is a 117-bed (including 14 midwifery beds, 2 birthing rooms and 14 bassinets) level four regional referral hospital with in excess of 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 surgical procedures and 600 births each year.
The hospital provides a range of acute specialist services (resident and visiting) including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine, Oncology, Haematology, Obstetrics, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal Dialysis and Rheumatology.
