About the Permanency Support Program (PSP)

CatholicCare's PSP listens to the voices of young people in our care, recognises their uniqueness and tailors responses to their individual needs. About the Therapeutic Specialists

Working directly with the Therapeutic Care teams, the Therapeutic Specialists support the teams to provide consistent care for children and young people in the PSP who have experienced abuse, trauma or neglect; helping the children and young people to meet their goals.

The Therapeutic Specialists work closely with key stakeholders to ensure decisions are guided by the principles of permanency planning, therapeutic and trauma-informed care and reflect the needs and aspirations of the child or young person as they progress through the program.

As clinical experts, the Therapeutic Specialists mentor  staff, ensuring transfer of knowledge and implementation of best practice.

About you

We are looking for applicants with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a therapeutic care or clinical environment, working with children and young people in out of home care; applicants with the ability to relate to and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders; applicants who have the desire to effect positive change and whose personal values align with our own: Respect, Hope, Commitment, Professionalism, Excellence and Social Justice.

Vital to these roles are your:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work;
  • Current relevant professional registration;
  • Thorough understanding of the theories relating to and the impact of trauma, abuse and neglect on a child or young person's development and well-being;
  • Ability to translate the theory into practice and lay terms in order to work with case managers and youth workers to deliver therapeutic responses to children and young people;
  • Well-developed understanding of Out of Home Care Services and child protection and support in NSW;
  • Demonstrated ability to coach others through engagement and working together and the ability to adapt their style to suit the situation and interaction;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent group facilitation skills;
  • Current Driver's Licence;
  • Current Working with Children Check.
