Purpose of Position

To provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Forensic Pathology, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award. 

The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.

Permanent Full Time (1.0 FTE)

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

All staff employed by NSW FASS may be required to supply a reference buccal sample so that their DNA profile can be compared to other generated profiles to exclude the possibility of contamination.

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent, temporary and casual vacancies.

Selection Criteria

Demonstrated contemporary clinical knowledge and technical expertise within the specialty of Forensic Pathology. Demonstrated effective analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSWHP RITE values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence. Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in Forensic Pathology and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Applicants who are expected to obtain Fellowship with the RCPA within 10 months are eligible to apply. Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research and/or medical education and staff training. Proven ability to work as a team member with effective communication, interpersonal skills and adaptability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management, continuous improvement and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
