Northside Group is part of Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest provider of private health care, and has facilities in St Leonards, Cremorne, Wentworthville and Campbelltown. This newly created Research Assistant position will be based in the Mood Disorders Unit at Northside Group St Leonards, and will report to Scientia Professor Philip Mitchell, Medical Director of the unit and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales and to the Northside Group CEO. Northside Group St Leonards is a brand new 112-bed state-of-the-art facility, with specialties in Mood Disorders, Addiction Services, Eating Disorders, Young Adult Services, ECT and General Mental Health. We also operate a robust day program service across all disciplines.

Role

The Research Assistant will provide support to clinical mood disorder studies (depression and bipolar disorders) and will assist with the establishment and ongoing management of new clinical research programs. There may also be the opportunity to be involved in research in other specialty areas within the hospital, and a requirement to assist the Executive team with preparation for Ethics Committee meetings.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  •  Assistance with the completion of Ethics Committee applications;
  •  Timely and accurate completion of structured interviews of study participants using diagnostic structured interviews;
  •  Provide written feedback about results to participants and treating doctors as required;
  •  Assist with accurate data entry, data cleaning, and maintenance of study databases and records;
  •  Ensure collection of study participant data is valid and ethical;
  •  Assist (under supervision) with the establishment of web-based surveys and other data collection;
  •  Undertake literature reviews as required;
  •  Assist with the drafting of publications;
  •  Conduct statistical analyses of data as required by the Project Supervisor;
  •  Perform other duties as requested by your supervisor; and
  •  Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the Northside Group – St Leonards Clinic, and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

Essential Criteria

  •  Relevant disciplinary qualifications, such as an Honours degree in psychology, or university qualification in Nursing;
  •  High-level time management and organisational skills with a proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines;
  •  Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  •  Proven experience in data management and statistical analysis with SPSS;
  •  Demonstrated experience conducting literature reviews, writing research reports, and reporting data analyses;
  •  Ability to work both independently and constructively in a team environment;
  •  Experience assessing psychiatric symptoms and using structured clinical interviews; and
  •  Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
