Indigenous Child Health Worker (Full-time)

North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (NCACCH) is a not for profit, community-controlled health corporation and is funded by the Australian Government's Department of Health (DoH), Central Queensland, Wide Bay & Sunshine Coast PHN and the Queensland Government Department of Health.

NCACCH is an innovative leader in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare, providing a range of services and programs through the implementation of the very first Brokerage Model for health service delivery. Through this highly successful Brokerage Model, NCACCH maintains contracts with over 800 primary and allied health professionals across the region.

With the purpose of providing a holistic and comprehensive primary health care service, NCACCH seeks to improve health and social outcomes to our community through;

  • Provision of access to a full regional network of health care professionals;
  • Encouraging choice for individual Indigenous community members. And through exercising this choice, building cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness across the community while simultaneously promoting market competition between health care service providers as they seek to attract Indigenous clients; and
  • Utilising partnerships with primary healthcare services and other specialised services, as a proactive tool to deliver community wide “Closing the Gap” health status improvement initiatives.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Indigenous Child Health Worker (ICHW) position is to provide a range of early intervention, prevention, and health promotion strategies for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children aged 0-17 years attending pre-prep, prep, primary school, high school, and their families.

Working in partnership with the Department of Education and Training, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS), community, and other service providers, the ICHW will ensure that program initiatives address priority health issues including:

  • Nutrition and physical activity;
  • Injury prevention;
  • Immunisation promotion;
  • Social and emotional development;
  • Self-development and personal care;
  • Parenting programs and skills;
  • Ear health issues; and
  • Child development.

The NCACCH Indigenous Child Health Worker operates with the highest level of integrity, accountability and professionalism in accordance with NCACCHs values and Code of Conduct. In addition, they work towards ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation service delivery, and support continuous improvement through encouraging innovation and best practice, within NCACCHs current quality management systems.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications such as a Certificate III or IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, qualifications in Health Promotion or equivalent professional experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of primary health care, health promotion and community development principles and practices;
  • Sound knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, health issues, and health disparities between Aboriginal and non-Indigenous population across South East Queensland;
  • Proven skills in planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of health programs, activities, and strategies;
  • Demonstrated as possessing highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate for positive health outcomes in collaboration with clients, internal and external stakeholders;
  • High-level administrative skills including the ability to prioritise competing work priorities, maintain accurate and legible records, and utilise resourceful thinking to solve day to day problems;
  • Sound competency in using both PC and web-based programs and applications, including Microsoft Office suite; and
  • Ability to work autonomously and display initiative, self-motivation, time management and solution focused skills.

 

Remuneration: By Negotiation, dependent upon skills and experience. Salary Packaging Available
