Northern Heart - Northern Hospital Cardiology Department is a busy and rapidly expanding department that offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient cardiac services to patients in Melbourne's Northern suburbs and regional Victoria.
Northern Heart is a high volume tertiary service inclusive of 5 Interventional cardiologists who perform 500 Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) per year. The department offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic services, including the 24 hour PCI service (STEMI) linked with MICA Victoria and performs 190 primary PCIs per year.
The position offered is a full time fellowship (1 EFT) for 12 months dedicated to all aspects of interventional cardiology training and research. The Trainee will be involved in complex cases including dedicated chronic total occlusion sessions, bifurcation lesions and multivessel intervention. The successful candidate will obtain significant experience in Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) analysis, Rotablator Artherectomy, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and also Optical Coherance Tomography (OCT). Northern Heart was the first institution in Australia to utilise this technology (OCT).
The Cath lab service is closely affiliated with coronary CT and cardiac MRI.
There is a high level of publications produced and the research potential is significant.
The research role includes involvement in clinical research and international multicentre trials. It is expected that the successful applicant will undertake individual research projects with supervision.
They will be an integral part of a regular auditing process and formal weekly conferences alternating between Cardiac Thoracic Surgery and PCI.
The successful applicant must be eligible for training in Interventional Cardiology in accordance with CSANZ guidelines. Applicants must be eligible for appropriate registration with APHRA. Position commences in February 2019.
