The purpose of the Clinical Coach role is to work closely with the clinical education/ training and operational team to ensure the education, mentoring and wellbeing needs of Aged Care, clinical employees are met.

This position requires clinical coaching and mentoring, promotion of accountability within clinical staff, assist in the supervision of clinicians under limited registration, identify employees that may require additional support, promote staff retention and a positive company culture, all with the view of delivering high quality service and achieve high level of staff engagement.

Key Challenges

The key challenge for this role will be to support a dynamic, predominantly full-time workforce to ensure that practitioners have the right clinical and soft skills to meet the changing demands of their clinical position within the context of the aged care sector. Ensuring staff feel supported emotionally, socially and clinically. A key aspect of this role is to promote staff retention and engagement and encourage the adoption of our company values, culture and service standards.

The other challenge is to support the supervision and clinical mentoring needs of our limited registration clinicians through the AHPRA limited registration process to maintain the integrity of our workforce planning.

Key Accountability's

  • Provide clinical leadership and day to day clinical advice to a team of allied health practitioners who predominantly work off site at various locations.
  • Role model advanced clinical skills and leadership in own area of expertise as well as demonstrating overarching professional practice.
  • Assist management in the enhancement and development of policies, protocols and other documents to ensure compliance, values, relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Help employees to understand their role and accountability within the organisation and how they can best develop their unique skills and talents to benefit the organisation.
  • To emphasise the provision of safety through risk reduction, abiding to health and safety policy and inflectional control procedures.

Coaching/ Mentoring

  • Use of various methods to enhance the coaching relationship and its effectiveness, including; to include observation, formal audit, construction of individual learning and career support plan, constructive and supportive verbal and written feedback.
  • To promote and incorporate values during coaching interventions.
  • To assist staff, particularly new graduates to be confident and competent in their role. To lead by example and demonstrate how all aspects of their occupation relates clinically within the aged care environment and promote the development and integration of previous learnt theory and best practice into their daily clinical role.
  • Construct a monthly coaching plan for all clinical staff.
  • Undertake a monthly assessment of the wellbeing of all clinical staff
  • Provide guidance and support to each clinical staff member in areas including :
    • Learning and development
    • Technical skills
    • Soft skills
    • Wellbeing & management of stress
    • Administration and compliance
    • Process improvements
    • Work-life experience of staff

Supervision

  • Provide supervision under the AHPRA limited registration process for internationally accredited clinicians employed by the organisation.
  • Comply and carry out the required associated supervision reports in accordance with the AHPRA limited registration process.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring in-conjunction with the Clinical Educator.

Quality Improvement

  • To be involved where necessary, with development and execution of training of individuals prior to or during the performance improvement process.
  • To be actively involved in quality initiatives including service evaluation, planning, review and development.
  • To contribute to continuous quality improvement to achieve best care for everyone.

Administration

  • Time management will allow for follow up correspondence with management, clinicians, key stakeholders and Managing Directors.
  • Reports to be completed and submitted to management in a timely manner.
  • Email, phone correspondence between clinicians or management and coaches must be followed up during the work day or when outside scheduled work days within a 24hr period.
  • Any data/ statistics to be collated via our cloud based systems will be completed within expected timeframes.
  • Resources are to be used prudently, effectively and in accordance in a timely manner.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy or relevant Allied Health disciplines
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an allied health leadership role
  • Current valid Drivers License
  • Current valid National Police Check indicating no previous or pending convictions
  • Evidence of experience in meeting key performance measures, including budgets
  • Evidence of having provided excellent clinical intervention, person centred practice and quality customer service
  • Evidence of previously coordinating a clinical education program
  • Evidence of competency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and ability to learn to use systems within a range of working environments
  • Ability to travel outside the usual workplace &/or geographic area for short periods
  • Experience in working with older people
  • Post graduate qualifications in a relevant field (eg rehabilitation, gerontology, dementia, training & education)
