About the Role

Acacia Prison is Australia’s largest prison located approximately 50 km east of Perth CBD. The medium security facility operated by Serco is responsible for the management of 1,470 male prisoners. 

We take pride in our prisoner rehabilitation programs, safety record, service delivery to our customers and our pro-social learning environment.

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals to undertake the role of Psychologist / Social Worker within the Psychological Wellbeing Services department at Acacia.         

   

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Case management of a broad range of prisoners in a multi-disciplinary care team
  • Providing individual therapeutic counselling to prisoners
  • Facilitating group-based interventions
  • Case formulation of presenting psychological and/or behavioural issues, including assessing persons at risk of suicide and/or self-harm
  • Developing and reviewing treatment plans
  • Preparing accurate, defendable documentation relating to prisoners’ progress
  • Provide key liaison support with Residential Operations to help inform the case management of prisoners
  • Assisting in the implementation of Acacia Prison’s Drug & Alcohol Strategy
  • A commitment to prisoner rehabilitation
  • Demonstrating and promoting respect for the dignity, culture, ethnicity, values and beliefs of offenders and colleagues

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Psychologist: Completion of a 4 year Degree in Psychology (BPsych or BA Psych – Honours): OR Masters in Psychology(Forensic, Clinical, Counselling): AND  Eligibility for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Association (AHPRA).
  • Social Worker: Completion of 4 year Degree in Social Work; AND eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering individual counselling, ideally within a correctional, welfare or other institutional setting.
  • A demonstrated understanding of how to utilise a variety of evidence based practices in the assessment and intervention of different psychological and behavioural presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of psychological services and programs.
  • Highly effective and accurate report writing skills, in the preparation of defendable documentation.
