Melanoma Institute Australia Medical Oncology Fellowships

Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) has two full-time Fellowship positions at MIA for third year advanced trainees or recently qualified RACP fellows in Medical Oncology. These positions will provide a unique opportunity for the right individuals to obtain training in the treatment and care of melanoma patients in a multi- disciplinary, clinical and translational research environment.

MIA is an independent, non-profit organisation located in North Sydney. The Institute is formally affiliated with the University of Sydney and collaborates with clinicians at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Westmead Hospital and St Vincent’s and Mater Health to improve the outcome of patients with melanoma. Our team of medical oncologists sees approximately 500 new melanoma patients each year and lead a large number of clinical trials of novel agents, including investigator initiated clinical and translational studies. The Institute has become a major referral centre in Australia, and the care and research conducted by the Institute is widely regarded as world-class.

The Institute is seeking two 3rd year trainees or newly qualified RACP fellows to fill two full-time (1.0 FTE) Fellowship positions for twelve months from February 2019. These positions are based at MIA in North Sydney and will enable the successful applicants to work within a dynamic and high volume multidisciplinary team focused on the treatment of melanoma, with research links to Westmead Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred and Royal North Shore Hospital. These positions offer an ideal opportunity to the right candidates to work alongside leading medical oncologists to receive training in the care of melanoma patients, gain expertise in the use of immunotherapy and targeted therapy, gain a detailed understanding in the conduct of clinical trials, as well as gain exposure to world-leading clinical and translational research programs.

These positions will involve participation in outpatient multidisciplinary melanoma care, strong involvement in the conduct and medical oversight of medical oncology clinical trials, and the conduct of clinical research programs. The fellows will be expected to participate in the academic activities of the Institute, including conducting research projects for presentation at a major international conferences and publication in high ranking journals. Opportunity for part-time postgraduate study for a Masters through The University of Sydney is available, as is the potential to transfer after completion of the fellowship into a full-time PhD at the University of Sydney or Macquarie University.

Applicants need to hold a FRACP part 1 and 2 exam or equivalent, be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia; and have completed (or will have by January 2018) at least 2 core years of advanced training in medical oncology. Priority is given to Australian candidates. Appropriate regulatory assistance will be given to facilitate the best overall candidates. 

Salary is $122,000 base per annum.
