This position seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal population accessing mental health services within SESLHD. The Aboriginal Mental Health Clinical Leader will provide strategic advice and leadership to the mental health program aimed at developing and improving mental health services for Aboriginal people. This includes enhancing the capacity of the mental health workforce to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of the Aboriginal community, providing support to the Aboriginal Mental Health workforce (including the trainee program) and promoting and developing cultural awareness and safety within the mental health workforce.  
The positon will also support and monitor the development of collaborative relationships between the mental health service and Aboriginal community controlled organisations and other partners.  
 

  1. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent authorised under section 14 of the Anti-discrimination Act (NSW) 1977
  2. Tertiary Qualifications or equivalent relevent experience within a health related discipline including Bachelor of Health Sciences (Mental Health), Psychology, Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy or a relevant management qualification and/or experience
  3. Proven working knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, social and emotional health and welfare issues and how these impact on the community
  4. Demonstrated effective experience working with Aboriginal People, their communities and support organisations
  5. Demonstrated leadership and ability to implement programs and intiatives and provision of support to the Aboriginal Mental Health workforce
  6. Demonstrated experience in negotiating and partnering with a diverse range of health, Aboriginal organisations and social services to meet the needs of Aboriginal people with mental health or social and emotional problems
  7. 7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise workloads, and to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  8. Current Drivers’ Licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance of the demands of the position)
