Position Summary
Peninsula Health has a new and innovative opportunity for an experienced Senior Clinician (OT, SW or RPN Grade 3) on a fixed-term, part-time basis until July 2020.

The Specialist Family Violence Advisor Initiative within Mental Health Services forms part of the Victorian Government’s response to the Royal Commission into Family Violence. In 2016 The Royal Commission made 227 recommendations for sector reform and though these highlighted the need to improve the way that health and human services work together to support victim survivors regardless of where they enter the service system.
The Specialist Family Violence Advisor Initiative is a two-stage program, which responds to Recommendations 98 and 99. This position (Stage 2) has been resourced for an initial two-year period with the overall objective to embed family violence expertise into clinical mental health services throughout the organisation.
The Specialist Family Violence Advisor will work with staff and other key stakeholders (internal and external to Peninsula Health) to increase the capacity of the services to identify and respond appropriately to family violence. This role aims to provide secondary consultation to increase staff knowledge, confidence and competence and enhance the quality and consistency of the response to victims, survivors and perpetrators of family violence at whatever point that they access the health service.
The position will be responsible for the local implementation of key policy and legislative reform, which will guide system and practice change within mental health services.
The Specialist Family Violence Advisor will report to the Strengthening Hospital Responses to Family Violence (SHRFV) Project Lead, which is overseen by the Social Work Department

Key Responsibilities
• Through clinical mentoring, secondary consultation and direct response- increase
the capacity of mental health staff to identify and respond to victims, survivors and perpetrators of family violence.
• Develop and deliver (in conjunction with stakeholders) specialised training for mental health staff.
• Implement key legislative and policy reform within the organisation, focused on
changing practice within mental health services.
• Strengthen pathways and relationships within the service system, to improve the
quality of response and service provision to people accessing Peninsula Health mental health services in situations of family violence.

Essential Criteria
• AHPRA registration (OT, RPN) or Member/Eligible for Membership of AASW (SW)
• Experience working in public mental health services
• Strong working knowledge of the family violence legislation and policy context
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
